The Future of the NBA in the 2020's
This week we decided to bring to present our thoughts on three players we think will be some of the best during this decade. We have rising star Ja Morant, The young buck and reigning MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, and certified goat and perhaps the greatest player to step on the stage LeBron James. These stars will be the foundation for the NBA moving forward as we get to see them further their legacy and rise in the all time charts.
Ja Morant is a dynamic play maker and very fun to watch. In his rookie season, where he’ll likely win rookie of the year, he definitely made the players around him better as a facilitator and still gets to the basket, averaging 17.6 points and 6.9 assists. Although the road ahead for Morant will be difficult due to playing in the west, he will be a serious threat. He will be a player who stars will want to play with, so hopefully he will get more talent around him and be able to chase rings in the future. On the other side of the ball, he’s a great defender at the point guard position and can go toe to toe with some of the best, oftentimes being able to time their moves while at the same time having a better vertical than them. In my eyes, he is a more mature Russell Westbrook. He is fierce and competitive, but he doesn’t have to be in your face all the time or always be in the media and become a meme.
LeBron James has evolved, and that evolution has cast his name among the greats. While the definition of "best" is entirely subjective, for the most part, LeBron James is considered to be the best right now. LeBron had to contend with all-time great teams such as the 2012-2014 San Antonio Spurs and the 2014–2018 Golden State Warriors. The 2013–14 Spurs and the Warriors dynasty that had been record-breaking teams. Jordan and LeBron are rightly praised as the two greatest NBA players in history. LeBron gave his team more wins in both the regular season and the playoffs. He lost more championships than Jordan because he dragged more mediocre teams there. That shouldn’t be a flaw, but rather a testimony to his greatness.
Giannis should be the face of the NBA throughout the ‘20s, his style of play and dominance is a one in a generation talent that we’re all lucky to be able to witness. As a Bucks fan, after watching Giannis get better and better each season after being drafted 15th overall in 2013, it’s really crazy to think about how far he’s come and how much he’s been able to develop his game. He’s increased his PPG, APG, and RPG in almost every season, which is just one of the things we can point out about how he is continually improving his game. One thing that many NBA fans don’t know about Giannis, is the fact that after being drafted, he grew another 2 and ¾ inches. Now standing at almost 7 feet tall, Giannis is the only player in the league at his size to move as quick and agile as he can, making him almost impossible to guard in the paint. His play-style also allows for his teammates to benefit off of him; as he drives to the lane, this almost always forces a double team, and with Giannis’ high basketball IQ, he knows he has a free dish out to a wide open K-Midd or Lopez for an easy basket. We know Giannis is going to be dominant throughout this decade, but the real question is, how good is he going to be? If he improves his outside game, I could easily see him averaging 35, 13, and 6. He most likely would’ve won his second straight MVP award this season, and it would’ve been the second of more to come. Long story short, Giannis is easily going to be the best player in the league for the next 10 years, I just hope he wears a Bucks jersey for its entirety.
As that concludes our list of three players we think are going to dominate the next decade, leave a comment if you’d like and let us know which young players you think will make a big impact on basketball throughout the ‘20s.
